With over 20 years of experience, Sid Sottung has a wealth of industry knowledge and truly perfected his craft. We spent some time with Sid picking his brains on where his love from barbering came from, what a day in his barbering world is like and what the future holds for him

What inspired you to become a barber?

The real reason is I couldn’t afford university and I wanted to get into an artist inspired line of work. My mother suggested barbering/hairdressing and I fell in love with it right away.

What is in your Kit bag?

I can’t live without my own branded Sid Sottung Academy fade brush for when I’m doing my clipper haircuts. My own range of scissors too from the collaboration with the Japanese BMAC brand and my cordless Supreme Andi’s clippers!

What’s your favourite Fudge product?

That’s a tough one as I love them all! I would have to choose Xpander Foam and the brand new Vinyl Pomade, I can’t live without them! I’m also in love with the Skyscraper hairspray too.

Can you talk us through what your normal working day is like?

I basically work 24 hours a day! My days can range from teaching in my own academy, traveling the world teaching seminars or doing photoshoots. On other days you can find me in business meetings or testing new products. But everyday I start off my day saying thank you to the world for giving me the best life today. I’m so grateful that I can share my strength, hope and experience with my students and staff.

What are your styling tips for aspiring barbers?

NEVER GIVE UP!!! Every expert started off as a beginner. Keep focused on your goals and have fun. I always say there is struggle before success! If you don’t believe check the dictionary!

Do you have a signature look?

Yes I would have to say it is a medium length of hairstyle, graduated on the back and sides but with a longer disconnected length. It is very versatile and modern and can be worn many different ways for today’s modern man!

What’s your favourite thing about being part of the Fudge Family?

IT’S A FAMILY. From the girls in the head office to the distributors, everyone acts as a team and family. Fudge only work with the best! That’s why I’m so honoured to be associated with Fudge! I’m so inspired by all of the Fudge family.

What’s next for your career?

I want to continue sharing the love of Fudge products to more barbers and hairdressers throughout the world! My goals are to open up an academy in Moscow, Russia and hopefully expanding my own academy in the UK, so many exciting things to look forward to!
